Please join the California Coastal Resilience Network on Wednesday, October 18, 12pm PST, to learn about the various ongoing State-led sea level rise and adaptation initiatives. Nuin-Tara Key from the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research will discuss the Integrated Climate Adaptation and Resiliency Program (ICARP), which is responsible for coordinating and maintaining the State Adaptation Clearinghouse (PRC 71360). Bruce Riordan, from the Climate Readiness Institute, will talk about his efforts to implement AB 2516, which calls for the California Natural Resources Agency and the Ocean Protection Council to develop a Planning for Sea Level Rise Database. Jenn Eckerle will discuss efforts the California Natural Resources Agency and the Ocean Protection Council to update the state’s Sea Level Rise Guidance. The focus of this webinar is to update Network members on ongoing State-led initiatives, highlighting how they each will work in complement to facilitate adaptation work throughout California.

Nuin-Tara Key is the Resilience Program Manager at State of California Governor’s Office of Planning and Research (OPR). She is an urban planning and policy professional with experience in social and environmental sustainability. With almost 10 years experience, Nuin-Tara has a dedicated commitment to finding creative and innovative solutions to system challenges through a keen ability to combine a technically oriented approach with systems thinking and strategy development. Her areas of expertise are sustainable urban development, climate change mitigation and adaptation planning, climate impact assessments and GHG accounting, social equity and good governance, strategic planning and organizational development. Prior to joining OPR, Nuin-Tara was the Executive Director and Producer at PrettyGoodProductions, an international, multi-media and research initiative on community responses to climate change. She has a masters in urban and regional planning from Portland State University and a B.A. from Lewis & Clark College.
Bruce Riordan is the Program Director for the
Climate Readiness Institute at UC Berkeley. The CRI brings together academic experts from UC Berkeley, Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, and other academic institutions with climate practitioners from Bay Area government agencies, non-profits and the private sector. Previously, Mr. Riordan served as the Climate Strategist for the Bay Area Joint Policy Committee. Mr. Riordan is the Co-Founder and past Chair of the Alliance of Regional Collaboratives for Climate Adaptation (ARCCA) that coordinates climate adaptation leaders from San Diego, Los Angeles, the Bay Area, Sacramento, and the Sierra. He was recently appointed by the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research to their statewide Advisory Committee on climate resilience under SB 246. Mr. Riordan has also consulted on climate change strategies for BART, Next 10, the Marin Community Foundation, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, the Bay Area Quality Management District, and other Bay Area organizations.
Jenn Eckerle is the Deputy Director of the California Ocean Protection Council (OPC). She is responsible for supervising staff and helping set the strategic priorities for coast and ocean policy in California. Before joining OPC, Jenn spent eight years as an ocean policy analyst for the Natural Resources Defense Council, where she conducted technical analysis and developed policy recommendations to advance ocean conservation related to marine protected areas, fisheries, marine debris, desalination, underwater noise, oil drilling and aquaculture. Jenn earned an M.S. in Marine Biology from the Florida Institute of Technology and a B.S. in Biology from the University of Vermont.
