FEMA Funding Opportunity
This is an important funding opportunity for anyone working on flood risk reduction work (such as floodplain and coastal wetland restoration work). Please share with any conservation staff doing work in this area.
FEMA has announced its Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) and Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM) grant programs for FY17 (more information at: https://www.fema.gov/hazard-mitigation-assistance). The application period will begin on August 14 and close on November 14. FEMA will offer informational webinars for prospective applicants on the FY17 NOFOs on July 19 at 2 pm EST and again on July 20 at 12 pm EST. Additional webinars covering project application development and applying via the Mitigation eGrants system will be announced at a later date.
The PDM program awards grants to reduce risk from future hazard events while simultaneously reducing reliance on Federal funding for these disasters. FEMA targets States, U.S. Territories, Federally-recognized tribes, and local communities for participation in the PDM program to raise public awareness about mitigation planning. Similarly, the FMA program makes federal funds available to these stakeholder groups to reduce or eliminate the risk of repetitive flood damage to structures insured under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
