St. Marys Flood Resiliency Project created through collaboration

In May 2017, the City of St. Marys, Georgia Sea Grant, the University of Georgia, Stetson University and North Carolina Sea Grant released the “St. Marys Flood Resiliency Project” report, a culmination of approximately 4 years of collaborative work to engage the coastal Georgia community in flood resiliency planning. According to the University of Georgia Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant website, “the historic, low-lying community has already experienced approximately nine inches of sea-level rise since 1897, and this trend is expected to accelerate in the future. This project has paired local knowledge with academic expertise to analyze risks to the City’s infrastructure and provide initial recommendations to manage flooding risks over the next 50 years. A model for other communities, this effort has grown to include other cities and counties throughout the U.S. southeast Atlantic region.”
