WORKSHOP: Updating California’s Sea Level Rise Guidance (San Francisco)

May 22, 2017 @ 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Workshop Invitation: Updating California’s Sea-Level Rise Guidance
The California Natural Resources Agency, the Ocean Protection Council, and the Ocean Science Trust invite you to participate in a public workshop to provide input on the policy update of the State’s Sea-level Rise Guidance.
At this workshop we will share the scientific information in the recently released report: Rising Seas in California: An update on sea-level rise science, and seek input on the draft outline and core components for the updated policy guidance. The workshops will build on the input collected to date by Dr. Susanne Moser and Climate Access via interviews and online listening sessions, and give participants an opportunity to further enhance the utility and usability of the forthcoming guidance.
We are convening this workshop in four locations. Please confirm your participation by selecting one of the register links below. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at one of these workshops!

Background Information
The State of California Sea-Level Rise Guidance Document, initially released in 2010 and updated in 2013, provides guidance to state agencies for incorporating sea-level rise projections into planning, permitting, investment and other decisions. The statewide guidance is being updated to reflect recent advances in ice loss science and projections of sea-level rise and will incorporate public feedback to ensure that is it understandable and useful for planning, permitting and investment decisions.  A draft of the updated policy guidance will be circulated for formal public comment in the fall of 2017, with final adoption by the California Ocean Protection Council scheduled for January 2018.
The updated guidance will focus on the needs of state agencies and local governments. It will help cities and counties as they comply with a new law that requires them to incorporate climate change into their planning efforts. The updated guidance document will also assist state agencies prepare for, and adapt to climate change, as directed by Governor Brown’s recent Executive Order
