He was re-elected in November of 2014. His major goal is improving the quality of life for all residents of Imperial Beach. Ed’s community involvement previously included membership on streetscape improvement work groups\, the Ecotourism Committee\, the Mayor’s Advisory Committee\, and the Tidelands Advisory Committee. \n \nDanielle Boudreau is the Coastal Management Specialist at the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve (TRNERR).  As part of the Coastal Training Program\, she provides science-based training and technical assistance to binational coastal decision-makers in the San Diego and Baja California regions. Currently\, she is managing the Reserve’s climate change and resilience efforts. Previously\, Danielle worked with The Nature Conservancy to advance coastal adaptation in North Carolina\, while pursuing her masters in Environmental Management and Geospatial Analysis at Duke University. Check out our interview with Danielle on her coastal climate adaptation work with the TRNERR here. \n \nDr. David Revell is the founder and chief scientist at Revell Coastal with 20+ years of experience in coastal geomorphology and management. SUMMARY:LUNCH CONVERSATION: CA Seawall Legislation
DESCRIPTION:Join the California Coastal Resilience Network for a lunchtime conversation on Wednesday\, December 7th from 12-1PM about how legislation could clarify the circumstances under which the Coastal Act allows shoreline armoring in California. \nSeawall along Monterey Bay shoreline. Photo Credit: Mary Gleason \nThe adverse impact of seawalls on the coast is well known. Coastal armoring degrades – and even eliminates – California’s beaches and other coastal habitats\, limits beach access and impedes coastal recreation\, and intensifies erosion on neighboring properties. Although the Coastal Act was designed to curtail coastal armoring\, it’s provisions are confusing and it has been interpreted in ways that are inconsistent with the Act’s intent. The Nature Conservancy will host a California Coastal Resilience Network conversation about how legislation could clarify the circumstances under which the Coastal Act allows armoring. No legislation has been proposed yet – the purpose of this conversation is to socialize the concept\, get a sense of how such legislation might help or impede Coastal Resilience planning\, and evaluate where support and opposition might come from. \nGuest facilitators: \n \nSarah G. Newkirk\, Senior Coastal Project Director\, The Nature Conservancy \n \nLouis Blumberg\, CA Climate Program Director\, The Nature Conservancy \n \nPablo Garza\, External Affairs Advisor\, The Nature Conservancy \n  \nWEBEX INFORMATION                              \n \nTo add this session to your calendar program (for example Microsoft Outlook)\, click HERE or the icon to the left. \nTopic: CA Seawall Legislation Brainstorming Session\nHost: Kelly Leo\nDate: Wednesday\, December 7\, 2016\nTime: 12:00 pm\, Pacific Standard Time (San Francisco\, GMT-08:00)\nSession Number: 648 610 528\nSession Password: This session does not require a password. \n——————————————————-\nTo start the session\n——————————————————-\n1. SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Coastal Conservancy Climate Ready Series - Lessons-Learned from Sea Level Rise Adaptation Planning
DESCRIPTION:Join the State Coastal Conservancy’s Climate Ready Webinar Series on Friday\, December 2nd from 10:00AM to 11:30AM. \nMany adaptation planning efforts are underway in coastal California to help communities prepare for sea level rise and its associated impacts. The Coastal Conservancy has funded over 14 such planning efforts and would like to share lessons learned and best practices from our projects that can help others working on similar efforts in California. This webinar will highlight three case studies including: \n\nSan Mateo County (Hilary Papendick\, San Mateo County)\nMonterey Bay (Kelly Leo\, The Nature Conservancy)\nLos Angeles (Alyssa Newton Mann\, USC Sea Grant)\n\nRepresentatives from these adaptation projects will share information about their planning efforts and key lessons learned through the process. This webinar is aimed for those involved or interested in adaptation planning in California. Time at the end of the webinar will be available for questions and discussion.\nTo register\, email Hilary Walecka of SCC (Hilary.Walecka at scc.ca.gov) with your name\, affiliation\, and email address. \nThe next Climate Ready Webinar will be “Living Shorelines 101” in January 2017\, date and time TBD.

DESCRIPTION:PLEASE JOIN US FOR A CALIFORNIA COASTAL RESILIENCE NETWORK WEBINAR\, Nov 29\, 2016 from 10:30AM to 12:00PM \nCoastal Commission staff spent a significant portion of the last year working on a synthesis of vulnerability information from a variety of sources including input from Coastal Commission staff in the District offices\, local governments\, and review of completed vulnerability assessments. This information will help prioritize future Commission efforts in addressing hazards and vulnerabilities related to sea level rise with a specific focus on Coastal Act resources most at risk. The Coastal Commission website will also host a new mapping tool to highlight and provide vulnerability information on a county level\, with special attention given to four case study areas. \nGuest Speakers: \nMichelle Jesperson \nMichelle Jesperson is the Federal Programs Manager at the California Coastal Commission where she oversees implementation of the federally approved California Coastal Management Program amongst three state agencies. Michelle has a background in land use planning\, land management and protection\, grant administration\, and budgeting from her previous work at the State Coastal Conservancy\, Coastal Commission\, Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District\, and White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Michelle holds MS and BS degrees in Earth Systems from Stanford University. \nMelis Okter \nMelis Okter is a California Sea Grant State Fellow with the California Coastal Commission. She is a recent graduate from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS)\, where she received her Master’s in International Environmental Policy with a concentration in Ocean and Coastal Resource Management. Her recent work at the Coastal Commission focuses on sea level rise vulnerabilities along California’s coastal zone. \nMary Matella \nMary Matella is an Environmental Scientist with the California Coastal Commission. She completed her PhD in Environmental Science\, Policy\, and Management at UC Berkeley\, with a focus on climate change and ecosystem restoration. Her work at the Coastal Commission furthers implementation of the agency’s Sea Level Rise Policy Guidance\, part of a larger statewide strategy to respond to climate change. \n  \nWebEx Information \n——————————————————-\nTo join the session\, go to https://tnc.webex.com/tnc/k2/j.php?MTID=t02589fe0821fc65f7dbc9e3a9d3ed72a\n——————————————————-\nAudio conference information\n——————————————————-\nUSA Toll Free:1-844-740-1264\nAccess code: 641 953 725 \n \nClick icon above or click HERE to add this session to your calendar program.
