Sea level rise and coastal hazards are putting human and natural communities along the coasts at greater risk than ever.

Human Populations
Long Island as a whole is densely populated. Sea level rise will put much of Long Island’s human population at risk, particularly in coastal towns and villages. The mapping tool developed by the Coastal Resilience Project allows users to map population density on the scenarios map, and to add to the base map layers that depict distribution of population over the age of 64, under the age of 5, and under the poverty limit. These groups are likely to be at particular risk if storm surge and flooding reach critical peaks.
