Sea level rise and coastal hazards mean that human communities along the coasts need their natural resources more than ever.

Resources At Risk
Increased flooding from sea level rise and storms affects people and nature, putting at risk both socioeconomic and ecological resources. Losses of homes and wetlands from more frequent and severe flooding, which could become increasingly permanent in some places, are both critical management issues. The losses to people should be of obvious concern. The loss of coastal habitats also represents losses of homes and nursery grounds for many species that are recreationally and commercially important. Loss of coastal habitats also means the loss of significant ecological services for people, including – significantly – a natural layer of storm damage attenuation.
